Frequently Used Products
Our focus is to choose ingredients that prioritize safety without sacrificing performance.
Here is a breakdown of some of our frequently used ingredients, what they actually do, and why we use them.
Polysorbate 20
The Peacemaker (Solubilizer)
Think of Polysorbate 20 as the "bridge" between oil and water. Since fragrance oils and water-based liquids don't naturally mix, you need this to keep your product from separating.
What it is: A non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier derived from lauric acid (often found in coconuts). Non-ionic means it has no electrical charge, distinguishing it from ionic surfactants such as sulfates.
Why use it: It allows you to disperse fragrance or essential oils evenly into water-based products (such as room sprays or body mists) without them floating to the top.
The "Clean" Perk: It is gentle enough to be used in sensitive skin formulations.
Optiphen Plus
The Bodyguard (Preservative)
If your product contains water (or might get water in it, like a sugar scrub), you must have a preservative. Without one, bacteria, mold, and yeast will move in within days.
What it is: A liquid preservative system consisting of Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, and Sorbic Acid. The addition of Sorbic Acid provides extra protection against mold and fungi, which are notoriously difficult to eliminate or prevent.
Why use it: It offers "broad-spectrum" protection, meaning it fights off a wide variety of bugs. Unlike some older preservatives, it is paraben-free and formaldehyde-free.
The "Clean" Perk: It works effectively in slightly acidic formulations and is globally approved, making it a favorite for "natural-leaning" brands that want to ensure consumer safety.
Paraben-Free & Phthalate-Free Fragrance Oils
The Vibe (Scent)
Fragrance is often the most scrutinized part of a label. We are proud to keep fragrances paraben and phthalate-free.
Paraben-Free: Parabens are synthetic preservatives that some studies have linked to hormone disruption. Thankfully, parabens typically remain in your system for 24-48 hrs. Switching to paraben-free products to reduce exposure is essential for a healthier lifestyle.
Phthalate-Free: Phthalates (specifically DEP) are often used to make scents last longer, but they are also linked to health concerns. Phthalate-free oils provide a beautiful scent profile without those specific chemical risks.
Why use them: They provide a consistent, powerful scent that is often more stable and diverse than essential oils alone, while still respecting the "clean beauty" standard.
Since we want to ensure there is something available for everyone seeking healthier choices, we chose to produce products made primarily with essential oils, with fragrance oil options available as well. Some customers do not enjoy the scent of essential oils, and this is totally fine. We have safe options for everyone!
